For younger guys, the important thing to know about is whether you received a vaccine (probably between ages 9 and 13) for the dangerous forms of this virus "family" before your first sexual contact. World Health Organization explains HPV infection is common because it spreads without penetration - it can pass on simply by skin-to-skin contact. There are more than 200 strains of human papillomavirus (HPV). Some cause warts on hands or feet, others warts on genital areas, and some cause abnormal cells on anal area or tongue/throat and can lead to cancer. Good news - most strains of HPV are not dangerous, and for about 90% of people who are exposed to all forms of HPV, their immune system "clears" that strain of the virus within 2 years, AND, even for the 10% of people who do not "pass" the virus within two years, only 6-9 of the strains are able to cause cancer, depending on sex.
